The family of a man who died while taking part in a clinical trial has been awarded an undisclosed amount in compensation, reports Orange News.
Luigi Belcuore underwent surgery at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry in 2009, as part of a trial of a new medical procedure to treat knee cartilage problems. During the procedure, air got into Mr Belcuore’s blood stream, causing an embolism that killed him.
The NHS Trust admitted liability and was ordered by a High Court judge to pay an undisclosed amount to Mr Belcuore’s widow.
According to Orange News, the NHS Trust issued a statement that read, “The Trust deeply regrets the tragic loss of Mr Belcuore's life and offers its sincere apologies to Mrs Belcuore and her family and would like to wish them well for the future."
