New laws to modernise the Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) process have been passed by the Scottish Parliament.

Six sheriffs have been appointed as specialists who will sit in Scotland’s new Sheriff Personal Injury Court.

The Scottish Government has recently published its Inquiries into Fatal Accidents and Sudden Deaths etc. (Scotland) Bill, which it says will strengthen the Fatal Accident Inquiry Process in Scotland by setting out practical measures for a system which is effective, efficient and fair.

Asbestos victims are still dying without legal redress, two years after the Government finished consulting on plans to set up an insurance fund to help them.
