A golf competition ball spotter who was blinded in one eye after being struck by a golf ball is suing the professional golfer who struck the ball, reports the BBC.

Seventy-year-old David McMahon was working at an event at Leven Links course in Fife in 2009 when he was hit in the eye by a ball. He claims he heard no warning shout before he was struck.

He is suing the golfer responsible for £50,000, arguing that he failed to take reasonable care to ensure no one was standing in a position where they might be struck by the ball before taking his shot.

According to the BBC, the golfer denies liability. He asserts that Mr McMahon appeared unexpectedly from behind a golf cart into the path of the ball after it had been struck, and that he exercised reasonable care at all times during the competition.
